1982 Oh Boy! Oberto
Owner: Brad Lewis
Driver: Kaden & Brad Lewis
Model Builder: SnowFox by Raptor Marine via John Earnest
Construction: Carbon vacuum bagged
Year Built: 2014
Motor: TP
Radio: Futaba
Electronic Speed Controller: Barracuda
Propeller: ABC Large/Rake
Paint Colors: Green, red, white
Notes about the Model: Holds NAMBA Modern 2 Lap Record.
Notes about the Real Boat: One of the only aluminum boats built in modern unlimited racing. Fred Leland owned hull raced under many names with many drivers including Fred himself taking turns at driving. It had a capsule added by rule in 1989 and wings by 1984. The owner driver of the model in ERCU, Brad Lewis, helped as a crew member from the U-7 Thor Racing Team in the 1992 Seattle Seafair race when the 10 year old hull was sat in the water for the last time as the Miss Tubs.
Notes about 2021: Watch out for this boat to be driven by multiple drivers throughout the year including an 8 year old and maybe an 80 year old? It’s sister ship the 1984 Oh Boy! Oberto could distract Brad as (heaven forbid) a 8255 with wings. Yes I’ve lost my mind to the “scale wing temptation” not because the boat will go faster and be easier to campaign, rather all because it just looks so cool!!
