Notes about the Model: Built from Henry Marvin's immaculate molds, the 2021 Graham Trucking model started its life as Terry's model of the 2009 U-3 Miss Chrysler Jeep, which was one of the lightest and fastest modern boats in 1/7 scale. Nelson bought the boat from Terry just before the third race of the 2021 season and ran it for the first time at an open water session in Banks, Ore. Nearly halfway through the 2021 season, Nelson stripped the Chrysler Jeep decals and converted the boat to the 2021 Graham Trucking as it appeared during the June Spring Training in Tri-Cities - all red with a black horizontal stabilizer and no decals. It ran that way - with a makeshift cowling that Nelson built - under variance for the rest of the season.
Notes about the Real Boat: Team owner Rob Graham hired is first new driver in June 2021 when he brought in Andrew Tate to replace J. Michael Kelly in the T-6 cockpit. Tater, as expected, was a front-runner in H1 Unlimited, winning all of his preliminary heats and finishing second in the final at the Gold Cup, despite having his wings come apart on lap three. The Graham Trucking hull is still one of the best fliers over the water and among the fastest boats in the fleet.
Notes about 2021: The 2021 season was a good one for this hull. In just four races, the hull scored enough points to finish fourth in season high points, won the Ted Jones Memorial and finished second place in the Gold Cup final with David Newton at the helm. It also had a third place finish in the final of the Stan Sayres Memorial with Gerry Bordon driving. It, too, was credited with a race win at the Governor's Cup. The outlook for the 2022 season, with the boat's new livery, an actual scale cowling and a new "turbine", is very strong.
