Happy New Year!
Granted, it's not already January 1, but a new year is beginning on November 1, when the 2022-23 ERCU racing year officially begins. This means that it's time to begin registering your boats and renewing your membership in the club. You can do both with a fillable form that's been added to the website (and make payment for your fees online via PayPal), or by downloading a fillable PDF and mailing it, with a check or money order to get yourself set for the new year. As a reminder, current members have their current registrations "protected" until January 2, 2023 as a motivation to get renewals taken care of. After January 2 boat registrations that have not been renewed will be made available on a first-come-first-served basis for anyone to register. A couple of changes have been made for the 2022-23 season, as well and they officially go into effect on November 1.
Our first ERCU Winter Meeting of the new year is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 on Zoom. We'll soon be sending an agenda and further information to the full membership, so keep an eye on your emails and your social media. Please plan to join us for this meeting as we begin to get ready for the upcoming season, which will be here before we know it. The 2022 ERCU End of Season Banquet has been scheduled, and is set for Saturday, Nov. 5, from 5-8:30 p.m. at The Ram in Lacey. Kelly & Sharon Stocklin, co-owners of the the U-40 Beacon Plumbing will be our special guests. Kelly will speak about his experiences as an owner in H1 Unlimited, the U-440 project, transitioning to the U-40 and the innovation in the sport that he's a leader in. The Stocklins are so excited to join us that when Kelly shared what time they will arrive for the 5 p.m. event, he said, “we’ll be there by 4:40” with a big smile on his face. We will also present our End of Season awards at the banquet. The Ram in Lacey is located at 8100 Freedom Lane NE. The ERCU Board of Directors, including newly-elected Paxton Reunanen and outgoing board member Ron Daum, met via Zoom on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. via Zoom to determine officers for the 2022-23 ERCU year, which officially begins November 1.
Club officers for 2022-23 will be Nelson Holmberg, chair; Rick Evans, secretary; Jim McKeon, registrar/treasurer; David Newton, statistician; Jerry Dunlap, race coordinator; Bill Mowatt, inspector; and Paxton Reunanen, director at large. A couple of new business items came up, which were discussed without any action being taken. Those items included a question about a need to purchase a new chase boat to replace our Livingston, which has seen better days; and a brief discussion of the question whether the club should increase entry fees on race days. That discussion did not gain a consensus or a majority, so it will not move forward. Regular ERCU Winter Meetings will be held via Zoom on the second Saturdays in November, January and March, beginning at 10 a.m., so mark your calendars to join in on those meetings, which will include a board agenda and time for offseason member feedback and fellowship as well. There is still hope that the Roger Newton Memorial RC Boat Show will resume at the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum in February 2023, so stay tuned for more information as it becomes available. The ERCU Board of Directors is scheduled to meet Sunday, Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. via Zoom. The meeting is open to any member, sponsor, or potential member of the club.
Just one main agenda item will be handled at this meeting - essentially just the board electing its officers for the 2022-23 season, and beginning the transition of the treasurer/registrar from Ron Daum to the board member who will be assigned as the new person to hold that position. It is possible that new business items could come to the table during the meeting, but aren’t anticipated at this point.
